Global Victoria’s Terrible Image Choice To Depict ‘Best Student City’

Global Victoria, the Victorian Government’s trade facilitation agency and gateway to global economies and communities, describe themselves as “a diverse group of dedicated trade specialists, who are in-market, well connected and with a single conversation, can help your business reach its potential in international markets.”

In a news item from yesterday on their site, they celebrate Melbourne having “cemented its position as Australia’s best student city after the release of global rankings today highlighted the state’s unparalleled education opportunities, affordability, and cultural diversity.”

Here is how they decided to illustrate “Australia’s best student city” and “cultural diversity”:

Because nothing quite says cultural diversity and tolerance of others like someone wearing a keffiyeh aka palestinian terror scarf.

The question is: was this the work of some ignoramus not understanding the true meaning of the keffiyeh but associating it somehow with “cultural diversity” or was it the work of an Israel-hater knowing exactly what they were doing? Either way, Global Victoria really should replace the image. You can join me in letting them know here, emailing [email protected], or by calling 1800 325 224 if you live in Australia.

I assume they would care because they claim to respect people of all backgrounds and cultures…

Meanwhile, I am not suggesting they also replace their logo, but terrible coincidence much?
